So much for the weekend…
Posted by Scautura in Blogging, Roguelike Development, Work on 10/12/2008
OK, so I failed miserably to get an update out at the weekend. So here’s a screenshot:
OK, it’s nothing special, but it’s using LibTCOD, which I’m getting my head around.
The rest of this post is just me ranting, so I’ll break off here for those who don’t want to hear it.
Bursts of Activity

OK, more like long periods of inactivity punctuated by more bursts of inactivity. I haven’t died, disappeared, been sent to prison, been kidnapped by Beyea Aliens (kudos to anyone who gets the reference) or any other big nasty problems.
I have in fact been working my [insert vernacular here] off at work with little time to spend either developing or blogging — despite which, I have been working on CR: TNB (all will be made clear soon — ish) using LibTCOD with all it’s creamy goodness. Unfortunately, my brain is a bit stuck on ASCII roguelikes, but hopefully a little tweaking here and there and I can have a pretty/shiny chrome/concrete kind of world in glorious semi-graphicy ASCII goodness.
The world has taken a slight twist, as I’ve started thinking a little bit more about “how we got where we are” from where we are now, and with zombies being everywhere, I thought I’d add a little flavour to the world.
I want to say I’ll have something to show at the end of the week, but that’s just begging for trouble. Instead, I’m going to leave you with something new: The Plague.
Magic Disappearing Scautura

Well, not quite. I’m back at work, I haven’t quite disappeared. I’ve currently lost my motivation (if you see a small pink thing running around on the floor that looks like a little “m”, that might be it — don’t walk into it, you’ll hit it!) for coding temporarily, as I’m having to work on the website for the place I work, and I can only take so much coding at a time.
I will be back, and I’m trying to do the inspirational thing (i.e. What to do next) and keep the bug tracker up-to-date.
I have been trying to fiddle with Cygwin/Curses on windows, seeing if I can get a frozen/py2exe’d version out using that, without much success. I have got a working version of CR in Cygwin, but there are a few peculiarities — I can’t turn the cursor off completely (it doesn’t like cursor calls), for example — but it does run a lot faster than Console (which runs faster than WConIO — so I’ll probably drop that option). I can’t really ask people to install Cygwin/Python just for CyberRogue though.
It does however have the benefit of a (mostly) working curses in windows, so I can at least do cursory testing.
See you on the flipside.
Delays…
Posted by Scautura in Blogging, Release, Roguelike Development on 05/08/2008
I’ve taken a slight break from working on CR as it’s summer holidays (I work in a school) and I’ve got two weeks off. I’m not leaving CR alone (internally I’m at r69) so I’ll give you a new release. I’ve stopped blogging for a bit though.
I’m considering switching between Console and WConIO, due to restrictions in Console, so I might not be adding major features for a while. The shop is a placeholder, character generation is mostly in, medpacks are in, and I’m in the process of trying to design a “street”, from where you go into a “building” — my algorithm for the building is a bit off at the moment though.
I also have a plan for shotguns (spread blast) and full-auto being able to hit multiple targets, but I’ll possible just leave those alone. Enjoy r69!
Scribefire
Anybody ever used ScribeFire (FireFox addon for blogging)?
Ever had it “nuke” your preformatted text? I have… Anybody got a solution?
